Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Research Technician to join our Hermiston, Oregon team! This position provides support for Research Wheat Production/Testing and Hybrid Corn Seed Production, with an emphasis on: Equipment Operation, Field Preparation, Seed Planting, Roguing, Detasseling, Harvesting Operations, Plot Maintenance, Filed Data Collection, according to established protocols and timelines; and efficient conditioning, treatment, packaging, and shipping of seed.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities):

  • Provide support for planting, plot maintenance, roguing, data collection, detasseling and harvesting operations according to established protocols and timelines
  • Support seed drying and conditioning operations including receiving, husking, shelling, pre-cleaner, discharge, moisture sampling and forklift support through fall and winter.
  • Operate heavy equipment including Tractors, Planters, Plows, Detasselers, etc.
  • Support data collection and other activities associated with plot testing or seed production including gathering data before, during and after planting, assisting with field layout, planting, integrated pest management, rouging, seed cleaning, detasseling, and other general field support activities
  • May participate on hiring committees, organize and supervise temporary or seasonal workers ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Professionally and effectively communicate with Supervisors, cooperators, contractors, and support staff to ensure clear understanding of objectives and project success
  • Participate on committees and teams including Safety, Field, Plant, Warehouse, and others
  • Lead location safety programs as assigned
  • Actively support seed processing and warehouse activities including harvest, drying, conditioning, treat/packaging, and shipping through summer, fall and winter for corn and wheat
  • Ability to work with a team or individuals

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

What Skills You Need (Qualifications):

  • A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of direct experience within the agriculture industry, or related field
  • You have a valid driving and are willing and able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A”
  • Previous experience operating farm equipment including Tractors, Planters, Detasselers, etc.
  • Good safety and risk management habits
  • High attention to detail with the ability to make independent decisions
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work well with co-workers, temp labor, contractors, etc.
  • You are willing and able to work a flexible schedule, which includes shift work, overtime, and weekends during seasonal peaks to support production demand
  • You are comfortable with technology and possess an intermediate level of computer aptitude including the use of Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and are willing and able to learn other company specific applications as required
  • You are willing and able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation: Climb and/or work in elevated areas, Stand and sit for extended periods, work outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions, lift up to sixty (60) lbs., and perform work that involves repetitive motion and lifting

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Technical or Associate Degree within Agriculture or related field
  • Forklift experience
  • Previous training on field scouting
  • Leadership experience
  • Knowledge of production agriculture and production plant operations
  • Knowledge of field equipment and techniques (planting, cultivating, irrigation, cutting, wheel-pulling, delays, scouting, etc.)
  • Experience operating conditioning and packaging equipment.
  • Ability to do basic equipment maintenance

  • This position does NOT offer a comprehensive domestic relocation package
