Corteva Agriscience has an opportunity to join our Population Development team in Kekaha, Hawaii, as a Shadehouse Pollination Supervisor. This position is part of a well-established team that manages Shadehouse operations to meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables. The successful candidate will have a basic knowledge of plant biology and/or horticulture, have experience in corn hand pollination, be comfortable with machines, computers, electronic devices, and be interested in working both indoors and in the field. They need a positive, collaborative attitude, good communication and critical thinking skills, and a knack for creative problem solving. This position involves supervising Research Assistants and coordinating activities with other groups and teams. Responsibilities – What You’ll Do:

  • Manage day-to-day activities in the Doubled Haploid Shadehouse operation from pollination through harvest, working collaboratively to meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables.
  • Manage the inventory of pollination and harvest supplies
  • Coordinate with other groups to ensure key steps are completed in a timely and collaborative manner
  • Communicate openly with team and supervisors on matters of relevance
  • Promote positive work attitudes and harmonious relations
  • Supervise full-time employees and contingent workers, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with protocols and regulations
  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules, holidays, and weekends during peak periods when required
  • Support all Hawaii Research Center-wide goals and support other projects when needed

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Ability to manage people as part of a larger, culturally diverse group
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledgeable in plant biology and basic agronomy
  • Knowledgeable in hand pollination techniques for corn
  • Organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to bend, reach, and lift repetitively. Occasionally required to carry 20-50 lbs
  • Tolerance, willingness, and ability to work in warm conditions and variable environments
  • Computer competency and experience with MS Office- Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred skills or experience

  • Experience in tropical agriculture and/or horticultural operations
  • Experience in corn doubled haploid production

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, plant breeding, agriculture, or related plant science field
  • Two to four years related experience
  • Alternatively, equivalent levels of relevant education and experience

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $77,000.00 – $85,000.00 . This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
