Description

This position will be accountable for innovation, standardization and process improvement for research seed production agronomy in tropical, temperate and arid sites globally. This position is responsible for ensuring the sites execute appropriate agronomic practices to assure timely delivery of high quality seed in the expected amounts. This will involve working with agronomy leads at each of the seed production locations, identify best practices, share across sites and implement standardization of operations, logistics, field practices and IT tools. This position will collaborate with the Northern Hemisphere Operations Lead, Trait Integration Population Development (TIPD) operations leader, and Planning and Logistics lead.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and collaborate with agronomy leads at seed production sites to understand needs and requirements to successfully deliver research seed according to global breeding/product pipeline plans
  • Where appropriate, standardize agronomy practices, equipment, data collection and IT tools
  • Transform the global research seed production team to be more proactive anticipating in season challenges, identifying, evaluating and implementing new innovations
  • Collaborate with the global research equipment support team representing the research seed production sites in projects, communication of needs and implementation of standard field equipment.
  • Responsible for creating equipment strategies for research seed production sites.
  • Visit research seed production sites 1-2x per year to understand their practices and unique needs toward creating proposals for process improvement and standardization
  • Meet with teams, implement changes, and identify opportunities to optimize processes. Present reports to teams to implement action plans per site. Follow up with plans to ensure action is taken
  • Ability to lead teams to implement and execute plans Create small team and develop a proposal for data standardization\
  • Create a foundational data structure implemented at all sites
  • Constant monitoring of production results to measure target accomplishment and adjust processing factors. Communicate issues proactively to site leaders to identify potential solutions.
  • Identify specific solutions for each crop to address individual challenges and issues.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies And Experience

  • PhD University degree or MS University degree and highly technical related experience on tropical, temperate and arid environment agronomy
  • Minimum of 10 years research experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, ability to lead via influence and/or people management skills. Proven ability to work well with a wide range of people and different levels of workload. Demonstrated success in problem identification and implementation of solutions
  • Strong creative and analytical skills as well as ability to translate data, analysis and results into meaningful and easy to understand plans for execution teams.
  • Require excellent organizational, communication skills and attention to detail
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is preferred but not required, ability to work across diverse cultures is required
  • Ability to identify potential problems in operations and implement mitigation plans that ensure delivery.
  • Determine best practices and protocols that each site/crop/ process and train execution teams appropriately.
  • Ability to reallocate resources when needed based on product development strategy changes.
  • Ability to implement and manage change
